One pest that residents of desert areas such as the American Southwest are afraid of is the scorpion. The scorpion is a nasty little creature with a very big stinger on its tail. Scorpions will enter homes and yards and sting people and pets and buying gopher traps.
Scorpion pest control is no longer a concern for residents of the Southwest. In recent years scorpions have been reported in many Northern states. Scorpions travel north on trucks and trains hauling livestock and dirt.
The best method of pest control for scorpions is to clean up your property and eliminate the places where they live. This would include getting rid of any pile of scrap wood, garbage, junk, rocks, loose boards and other objects lying around your yard. Scorpions especially like to live under rocks and loose boards so always be careful when picking these up.
Once the yard has been cleared of debris another great pest control method for scorpions is to kill their food supply. Scorpions are arachnids like spiders and like spiders they insects. Reducing the insect population will eliminate the scorpionsí food supply and make your property less hospitable for scorpions.
Dust and spray insecticides can be spread to eliminate insects that scorpions feed upon. A good method is to spray the property down and use a duster to place a dust pesticide in crevices will usually get rid of scorpionsí food.
There are some pest control products that work against the scorpions themselves. Drione Dust and Delta Dust will kill scorpions. Granule pesticides such as Deltamethrin can also be spread around the house to keep scorpions away.
Scorpion glue traps can be placed inside the home or buildings to catch scorpions that get inside. The glue traps are simply pieces of cardboard with bait and glue on them the scorpion crawls on and gets stuck.
One good piece of advice when engaged in scorpion pest control never touch a scorpion unless you are sure it is dead. The stings from living scorpions can be very painful.
